OmniOutliner for iOS 2.0.2

October 28, 2013

Updated

  • Inspectors — The recommended font list has been updated to reflect iOS 7.
  • Interface — The contrast of handles and checkboxes on light and dark backgrounds has been adjusted.

Fixed

  • Attachments — Attachments can be tapped on again to bring up attachment controls no matter what level the row is indented to.
  • Styles — Fixed cases where named styles would not be applied in the correct order.
  • Interface — The button to clear the file name field is now visible on dark backgrounds.
  • Docx export — A clear background color will no longer set a black background highlight in the exported file.
  • Docx export — Embedded images are now included in the export. PDFs are not currently supported.
  • Toolbar — Buttons in the bottom toolbar now all have the same tap response appearance.
  • CSV export — For iPads set to a region format that use a comma as the decimal separator, CSV will export using a semi-colon as the separator.
  • Row deletion — Swipe deleting a row that is currently being editing will no longer crash.

New Features

  • Column headers — There is now a third option for column header visibility for never showing the headers.

Updated

  • Document picker — The UI for creating a new folder or moving files into folders has been moved to its own toolbar item for easier access.
  • OmniPresence — When a 404 'not found' error is returned when configuring a WebDAV server, a more helpful message is displayed about checking your account information. The most common issue was trying to add an Omni Sync Server account that didn't exist.
  • Audio recording — The audio recording UI in the bottom toolbar is now more visible when the interface is using a dark theme.

Fixed

  • Document picker — Fixed a possible crash with generating file previews.
  • Style theming — When a theme is applied that contains a whole document background color, the color will no longer be applied to the level styles.
  • Column headers — When column headers are set to 'Shown when multiple columns are visible', the headers will now be shown when additional checkbox columns are visible. The status column will not cause the headers to show.
  • Help — When tapping on the icon to download the PDF manual, the PDF will now open in Safari so it can be saved to iBooks or other compatible apps.
  • External keyboard — Japanese text can now be properly entered using a hardware keyboard.
  • Styles — Files created in OmniOutliner 3 for Mac that made use of child/grandchild/etc styles will always be properly imported now.
  • Saving — Fixed a crash encountered by a file closing with uncommitted edits when the app is asked to open a different document from an outside source.
  • Text — When dynamic type fonts are pasted (such as Korean, Japanese, or Hebrew text), the text will be immediately visible.
  • Undo — Redoing the deletion of a column will no longer cause a crash.

OmniOutliner for iOS 2.0

September 18, 2013

Welcome to OmniOutliner 2 for iPad! Some highlights of the new features include:

  • Templates — When you create a new document you will be presented with a list of your templates to start from. Easily turn an existing document into a template or create one from scratch.
  • Style theming — Have one document that you wished looked like another? Turn that other document into a template and apply it to any file you would like.
  • External keyboard support — Outline faster! Navigate around your document, rearrange rows, and add new content, all without touching the screen. If you use OmniOutliner for the Mac, you will already be familiar with all these shortcuts.
  • Export formats — Finished with your outlining portion of your project? Export your data to a word processing app using the DOCX format for the next phase. Need to switch to a spreadsheet app? Send your data over in CSV format.
  • Search — In-document searching has been moved to be a top level item in the toolbar for easier access.
  • Folders — Have a lot of outlines on your iPad? Organize them with folders. For those syncing with OmniPresence, the same folders will be visible on the Mac.

Updated

  • Localizations — Localizations have been updated for recent changes.

Fixed

  • Split row — Splitting a row will once again correctly create the new row directly after the current one.
  • Styles — Named styles applied to a level style will no longer end up applied directly to the row the next time the file is opened.
  • Undo — Redoing the deletion of a column will no longer cause a crash.
  • Saving — Fixed a possible crash encountered while saving.
  • Audio recording — The audio recording feature will function properly with iOS 7 now.
  • Attachments — Saving placed images with iOS 7 will no longer crash.
  • Text — Pasting RTF text with iOS 7 will now correctly paste the text instead of raw RTF data.
  • Text editing — The contextual menu will no longer flash with each press of the delete key when using iOS 7.
  • Dictation — Using dictation on iOS 7 will no longer add extra spaces in the row which would cause a crash if they were deleted.
  • Popovers — Popover buttons will no longer disappear under certain circumstances with iOS 7.
  • Document picker — Fixed a possible crash when previews are being generated.
  • WebDAV support — When configured to use an encrypted https connection to a sync server, it will now ignore any location headers from that server that tell it to switch to unencrypted http. Our assumption is that your configuration choice indicates that you want all sync operations to be encrypted, and that any servers which redirect to unencrypted http locations for these resources are simply misconfigured.

OmniOutliner for iPad 1.5.2

July 8, 2013

OmniOutliner for iPad v1.5.2 is a minor update that adds level styles, style propagation, and a preference for audio recording quality.

New Features

  • Level styles have been added and are located under the Styles tab of the tools popover. These allow you to apply styles to all rows of the same level at once. Round tripping files with OmniOutliner 3 on the Mac will preserve the style configuration much better now.
  • There are now two setting options accessible through the gear menu of the document picker. They control the quality of the audio recording and whether locally applied styles to a row should be carried over to new rows created from it.

Updates

  • Named styles will no longer inherit child or next-peer styles from any inherited named style.
  • Row numbering applied locally to a row will always be applied to new rows created from it. This also applies to gutter color and handle visibility but those are not shown on the iPad.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that could cause certain date formats to not be read in correctly. This did not corrupt any data, but could potentially cause dates to display differently than intended.

——

OmniOutliner for iPad v1.5 is a major update that adds automatic document syncing through OmniPresence. (This release requires iOS 6.)

——

OmniPresence is designed to work well with any Mac app which supports OS X’s Auto Save and Versions. Using the same underlying document coordination as Versions, OmniPresence lets your app know when a document has been changed on another device, and double-checks to make sure it always syncs a current and complete copy of any documents currently being edited. OmniPresence can’t prevent conflicting edits from multiple devices—but when that happens it automatically saves both versions of conflicting edits so that no edits are lost.

OmniPresence is also designed to support document syncing within teams. By creating a shared sync account for your team, you can make sure that everyone on your team always has the latest copy of every document available on all their devices.

We believe in building solutions that will stand the test of time, and we believe that your data should be yours to control—whether you’re syncing your personal files or your company’s confidential information. So rather than use a proprietary syncing service which might not be available in five or ten years, OmniPresence is built on top of open web server technologies. This means you can sync documents using your own web server, such as the Apache server built into Mountain Lion Server. (We’ve posted instructions for setting up WebDAV file sharing on Mountain Lion Server on our support pages.)

We know that some customers would rather not have to set up their own service, so we’re currently scaling up our Omni Sync Server to support OmniPresence. We’re not quite sure how much additional traffic to expect from customers using OmniPresence, so we’re not opening the floodgates to all our customers just yet—but we are trying to make OmniPresence available to all accounts as quickly as possible. (Anyone who has checked the “I am brave” box at sync.omnigroup.com should already have access, and anyone else who checks that box will be given priority access.)

New Features

  • Support for syncing your documents between devices is now available through OmniPresence. View the help documentation for more information on how to use it.
  • When renaming files through the toolbar, the whole width of the toolbar is made available for the file name.

Bug Fixes

  • Plain text, Rich Text Format, OPML, and OmniOutliner Template files can all now be used with the share button options.
  • Files round tripped between OmniOutliner 3 and OmniOutliner for iPad will no longer lose the expansion state of attachments.
