OmniOutliner for Mac 4.0.3

March 4, 2014

OmniOutliner Pro 4.0.3 improves performance with long documents, and fixes numerous crashes and bugs.

  • Notes — Fixed the issue with notes displayed in-pane disappearing at the start of editing.
  • Stability — Fixed multiple crashes related to using the style theming interface.
  • Performance — The performance of typing in long documents of certain configurations has been greatly improved. More optimizations are coming but if you have a file that is still performing badly and can share it with us, please send a copy to omnioutliner@omnigroup.com. Thank you!
  • Attachments — Edits made to an embedded attachment during the same session as it was attached should now always be saved.
  • Attachments — Linked attachments will now immediately appear as a generic file attachment instead of just after reopening the file. We will be looking at improving linked attachment support in future releases.
  • Export — When characters are present that can not be represented in the plain text encoding selected, an error message reflecting that will now properly display instead of causing a hang.

OmniOutliner for Mac 4.0.2

Updated

  • Interface — Here's how to check if you have OmniOutliner Pro. Open the app menu (next to the Apple menu); if you see the item "Pro Purchased", then you've got Pro! If not, you're using OmniOutliner Standard. Either way, thanks!

Fixed

  • Organizing — Rows can once again be moved up or down while being edited.
  • Stability — Fixed a crash that would occur when reverting to a previous version of a file.

OmniOutliner for Mac 4.0.1

January 27, 2014

New

  • Help documentation — A tutorial section titled Working in OmniOutliner 4 has been added to the in-app help.
  • Templates — A new Compact template has been added that is the same as the Blank template but with zero row and note padding.

Updated

  • Templates — The unnecessary white background color on the Blank template has been removed. The typos in the name of the named styles of the Muted templates have been corrected. If you have made edits to any of these templates you will now have two copies of them, your edited version and the updated copy.
  • Batch find — The styling of the search results has been updated to be more visible.
  • Columns — Editing of a column header can now be started with a single-click after the column is selected instead of a double-click.
  • Tooltips — Tooltips for truncated rows have been disabled until they can be properly implemented. They were too easily reappearing or sticking around when they shouldn't be.

Fixed

  • Sidebar — Row numbering now shows in the section list.
  • Sidebar — The button to toggle the visibility of the Styles section now has the proper mouse down state.
  • Sidebar — When confirming editing of the name of a named style, that named style should now remain selected.
  • Editing — It should no longer be possible to create a peer of the focused root which resulted in confusing states.
  • Sorting — When a new row is created while sorting is applied, it should always be visible.
  • Sorting — Sorting should now be properly updated when editing on a row has ended.
  • Performance — Batch find results will no longer be updated unless the results are being displayed.
  • Undo — When an outdent action on a row is undone, that row will now be properly visible instead of the parent being collapsed.
  • Styles — When the indent children setting is changed, all rows should now properly redisplay in the correct position.
  • Styles — Note background color should no longer be overridden by the row level background color.
  • Styles — When the preference When adding a row, use siblings' style is on, pasting copied rows should now retain the proper styles.
  • Audio recording — The aspect ratio of the recording bar button images has been corrected.
  • Zoom — Audio recording attachments should now always display at the correct size when the zoom scale changes.
  • Word docx export — Grayscale colorspace background values should now set a more appropriate highlight color.
  • HTML export — When inline image attachments are sized down to fit the column width, they will now also appear at this size in the HTML and HTML (Dynamic) exports.
  • HTML export — The visibility state of image attachments in the HTML and HTML (Dynamic) exports should now match the OmniOutliner document.
  • HTML export — Attachments with semicolons in the name should now get properly encoded links in the HTML and HTML (Dynamic) exports.
  • Text exporters — Plain text and RTF exporters should now honor the visibility setting of the column headers.
  • Copy/Paste — When a multi-column row is pasted after columns are rearranged, the column values should now appear in the correct locations.
  • Copy/Paste — When rows are pasted to a different document, hidden columns in both the source and destination document will no longer be taken into consideration.
  • Templates — The File > Save As Template option is now properly available when running the standard version of OmniOutliner.
  • Help documentation — Some typos and errors in the help documentation have been corrected as well as a change to the width of the text to better accommodate smaller screen resolutions.
  • Stability — Fixed a crash that could occur if an update, such as through OmniPresence, happened and the cursor was sitting in a number column.
  • Notes — The Enter key should now properly end editing for inline notes.
  • Notes — When notes are set to display in-pane, it should now be possible to bring back the note pane after dragging it all the way closed.
  • Quick Look — When Quick Looking OmniOutliner files, inline images should now be visible.
  • Attachments — When opening an embedded attachment, the embedded copy should now always open instead of the original.

OmniOutliner for Mac 4.0

January 15, 2014

Welcome to OmniOutliner 4! Some highlights of the new features include:

  • Zooming — Text can now be magnified on screen without changing your print layout.
  • A brand-spanking new UI — Yes, that’s right folks, we’ve totally redesigned the UI in OmniOutliner 4. Out with the old paradigms and in with the new.
  • Resource Browser — Use the new Resource Browser to browse recently edited files, choose templates, apply themes to existing documents, and import your templates from OmniOutliner 3.
  • Sidebar — We’ve done away with the old style drawer from OmniOutliner 3 and have created a new Sidebar that lists the Contents of your outline, Styles, and more!
  • Inspector redesign — OmniOutliner’s redesigned Inspector window is cleaner and fresher.
  • Styles — To be more in line with OmniOutliner 2 for iPad, we’ve retooled the way styles work to create a great cross-platform experience.
  • Theming — You can now apply the styles from a template (its theme) to your outlines.
  • Column visibility (PRO) — Have a document with a lot of columns that you only need to access every now and then? We’ve added the ability to hide columns when you don’t need them, and then make reappear when you want them back.
  • Smart Match technology — Pop-up List-styled columns benefit from the Smart Match technology we’ve used in OmniFocus. As you type characters in a Pop-up List cell, OmniOutliner tries to guess which item you mean—and the characters you enter don’t have to be at the beginning or contiguous. If you type a new value that you’d like to add to the Pop-up List, just enter Command-Return to add the value to that list.
  • Hyperlinks — URLs are converted into real links so you can click and open them in your default browser. What’s more, if you don’t want or like this behavior, you can toggle this off in OmniOutliner’s preferences.
  • Attachments — You can attach pretty much anything to an OmniOutliner document: images, video, audio, even other OmniOutliner files. Attached images autoscale to the column width, and you can attach audio clips which play right within the Outline. What’s more, we’ve added a new attachment popover to replace OmniOutliner 3’s tagging, so you can change the visibility of attached images, use alternative text rather than a filename, and direct how OmniOutliner 4 opens attachments.
