OmniFocus 2.22 for iOS and 2.12 for Mac add limited compatibility with test builds of OmniFocus 3, available later in 2018. These versions of OmniFocus can calculate the next repeat for the more complicated repeat rules coming in v3, but those rules cannot be edited.
- Database Format — Once all your devices are running OmniFocus 2.22 for iOS or OmniFocus 2.12 for Mac (or later), you’ll be prompted to migrate to a new database format. More information on migration can be found here.
- OmniFocus 3 compatibility — OmniFocus 2.22 can calculate the next repeat for rules like “Every first Friday of the Month” that can be set in test builds of OmniFocus 3 (coming soon). However, these rules can’t be edited and you’ll be warned before making changes.
- Repeating items — When completing a “Due again” or “Defer another” item ahead of time, OmniFocus is smarter about creating the next instance (we no longer create the instance with the same defer/due date as the one just completed).
- Settings — OmniFocus version information is now visible in the iOS Settings app.
- Apple Watch — OmniFocus complications now show no data when Apple Watch is locked.
- Encryption — Updated the encryption passphrase prompt to include a link to troubleshooting steps.
- Localizations — Updated localized text and fixed some problems with localized text and layouts.
- Single Action Lists — “Complete when completing last item” is now disabled, as parallel projects are the appropriate way to model a group of actions that all make progress towards a specific goal. If a repeating Single Action List is encountered with this option set, it is converted to a Parallel project upon repeat.
- Sync — Shortened the interval that determines whether OmniFocus will sync when foregrounded, so you’ll be much more likely to see a sync start when you foreground the app.
- Background Operations — Fixed a problem where OmniFocus wasn’t ending background operations when told to do so by the OS, which resulted in background termination and more “cold” starts when returning to the app.
- Calendar Alarms — Fixed a problem where OmniFocus would get stuck on “Synchronize Now” in Settings > Calendar Alarms.
- Calendar Publishing — Repeating actions are once again published to the OmniFocus reminders calendar without repeat rules.
- Crash — Fixed our most common crash since introducing Drag & Drop. Thanks for your patience!
- iPhone X — Fixed several layout problems on iPhone X.
- Siri — You can now ask Siri to “Show me my Reminders in OmniFocus” to get the list of tasks defined in OmniFocus Settings > Today and Watch. Previously you had to include the name (or partial name) of a Task, Project, or Context.
- Sync Conflict — Updated the UI for Replace Remote Database and Restore Backup to avoid Sync Conflicts that would occur when these actions where attempted while offline.
- Smaller Fixes and Improvements — Including crash fixes. Thanks for sending in those reports!
