OmniFocus for iOS 2.8

September 24, 2015

Requires iOS 9

OmniFocus 2.8 adds 3D Touch Launch Shortcuts and fixes bugs.

  • 3D Touch Shortcuts — Added 3D Touch launch shortcuts to the OmniFocus icon. On iPhone 6S and 6S Plus you can launch directly into a New Inbox Item, the OmniFocus Home Screen, the last item you were viewing, or Today (in Pro, this is Perspective you’ve chosen for the Today widget if applicable). These are dynamic shortcuts, so they won’t work appear until this version of OmniFocus has been launched at least once.
  • Crash Pasting — Prevented a crash when pasting short strings of text into the outline.
  • Sync Log — Adjusted the layout of the sync log for clarity.
  • New Inbox Item Button — Stopped this button from disappearing during an incoming sync.
  • Sharing from Notes — Sharing to OmniFocus from Apple Notes has been restored.
  • Stale Notifications — Notifications are now cleared when the database is reset.
  • Split-Screen Multitasking — Fixed many many bugs related to running in split screen.
  • Apple Watch — Fixed bugs related to Apple Watch and OmniFocus settings.

OmniFocus for iOS 2.7

September 15, 2015

Requires iOS 9

OmniFocus 2.7 adds a native Apple Watch app (with watch face complications and a customizable glance), and supports major new iOS 9 features such as split-screen multitasking and integration with system-wide searches. It also adds support for pasting multiple actions at once from other apps such as Notes. (This update requires iOS 9.)

  • Native Apple Watch App — OmniFocus for Apple Watch has been completely rewritten as a native app for watchOS 2. OmniFocus now offers watch face complications and a customizable Glance.
  • Split-Screen Multitasking — OmniFocus supports Split View and Slide Over multitasking on devices which support multitasking (such as iPad Air 2).
  • Spotlight Search — iOS can now search your OmniFocus database. So far only actions and projects are included, but we plan to add more.
  • Pasting — Multiple actions are now created when multi-line text is pasted into a list (including checklist items from the iOS Notes app).
  • Forecast — When the screen is narrow, the Forecast control displaying the week will now move to the top of the Forecast perspective. (It is no longer necessary to show the sidebar to access that control.)
  • Reminders Capture — In order to avoid conflict with the new “Siri, remind me about this” feature, we have had to change the way we capture from Reminders. Instead of deleting captured items, they are marked complete and moved to a “Captured by OmniFocus” list. You can view the original reminders by opening the Reminders app, choosing the “Captured by OmniFocus” list, and tapping “Show Completed”.
  • Bug Fixes — Many bugs were fixed while implementing new features for this release.

OmniFocus for iOS 2.6.2

August 19, 2015

Requires iOS 8

OmniFocus 2.6.2 fixes two problems related to sync:

  • Sync Conflicts — Fixed a bug where a device would mistakenly detect a sync conflict and ask you to replace your database.
  • Note Editing — Fixed a bug where the text insertion point could jump around the note during a sync, causing problems.

OmniFocus for iOS 2.6.1

August 17, 2015

Requires iOS 8

OmniFocus 2.6.1 includes crash and bug fixes as well as sync improvements.

  • Pro Purchase — The Today area of Settings now always immediately refreshes to show Pro options after purchasing/restoring Pro.
  • CSV Export — This feature is now always available.
  • Nearby — The explain-o-text now adapts to orientation changes on iPhone, avoiding cut-off text.
  • Crash in Swipe to Flag — Fixed a crash related to toggling flags for rows.
  • Crash on Home Screen — Fixed a crash re-arranging home screen tiles.
  • Sync Triggers — OmniFocus now syncs right away when a change has been made which affects app icon badge counts.
  • Apple Watch — Changes made on Apple Watch can now sync without OmniFocus on your iPhone needing to be launched.

OmniFocus for iOS 2.6

July 15, 2015

Requires iOS 8

OmniFocus 2.6 adds an optional Dark Color Palette, more responsive sync, and Swipe to Flag. It also includes many bug fixes.

  • Dark Color Palette — Choose between light and dark color palettes, or have OmniFocus automatically adjust as background lighting shifts. You’ll find controls for this feature in OmniFocus Settings.
  • Swipe to Flag — Toggle the flag on tasks or projects from any list or outline.
  • Responsive Syncing — OmniFocus now uses Push to trigger syncs so that changes made elsewhere are dowloaded to your device more quickly. As of this release, support for Push on the Omni Sync Server is in beta. Even if you sync with your own WebDAV server, this feature changes the amount of (anonymous) data that reaches Omni servers; check out this support article for more information. In order for your Mac to trigger a sync in OmniFocus for iOS, it must be running OmniFocus 2.2.1 or later.
  • Sync Settings — Sync Settings have been redesigned to incorporate Push, as well as provide a client list and a log of recent syncs.
  • Incompatible Database Alert — This now offers to email OmniFocus support and include debug information that will help us find out why you received it.
  • Sync While Editing — OmniFocus now integrates sync changes in many more situations*, though sync is still postponed:
    • While creating a new item.
    • While a text field is being edited (i.e. the keyboard is open).
    • While a sub-editor like the repeat details view is open.
  • HTTP Request Headers —- Our WebDAV HTTP requests now include an X-Caused-By: header which indicates the reason for the current operation. We’ll be using this header to analyze the effects of Push on Omni Sync Server traffic.
  • Cold Launch — Updated the splash image used for cold launch to be less jarring when the dark palette is enabled.
  • Inherited Dates — Inherited dates now appear in italics to reduce confusion.
  • Edit Mode — We no longer give the No Context group drag handles in edit mode, since it can’t be moved.
  • Grouping Counts — Grouping counts now immediately update in response to view option changes.
  • Apple Watch App — Fixed a problem where counts on the home screen and glance were not updated when crossing over midnight.
  • Due Date Picker — If a Defer Date is set, the Due Date now defaults to it instead of Today.
  • URLS in Notes — Made tapping links in notes easier.
  • Sharing from Other iOS Apps — If a share provider provides separate title and content, we now place the title in the new action’s title and the content in its note.
  • VoiceOver — Greatly improved VoiceOver support.
  • Miscellaneous Fixes — Assorted smaller crash fixes and stability improvements.

* This change means that OmniFocus’ “last edit wins” method of sync reconciliation is more obvious in some situations, but those situations should be limited (they require simultaneous edits to the same item).
